Dequn Li, passed away on September 5, 2022, at the age of 78, in Wuhan from a serious disease. He is an expert in material forming, a fellow of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and a professor at Huazhong University of Science and Technology.

  Dequn Li was born in August 1945 in Taixian County, Jiangsu Province. He acquired a bachelor’s degree from the Department of Metallurgy of Tsinghua University in 1968 and a master's degree from Huazhong Institute of Technology in 1981. Dequn Li had been a professor, Chairman of the Academic Degree Evaluation Committee, and Dean of the School of Materials Science and Engineering, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, as well as a member of the Material Subject Consultative Group of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council. In 2015, he was elected as a fellow of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.

  Dequn Li devoted his whole life to the research and development of an integrated system for the plastic injection molding process and an intelligent plastic injection machine, which contributed a lot to the development of mechanical forming engineering and automation in China. He insisted on doing scientific research with persistent efforts, an indifferent attitude towards fame and fortune, and a spirit of solidarity and mutual assistance.
